Cats in Crisis

What is the cat crisis in Peoria?

It comes down to a problem of too many cats and not enough homes for them all. Pet overpopulation has been an issue very near and dear to the Peoria Humane Society through the years. Very recently there has been a drastic change in the number of dogs entering the PCAPS County shelter. The adoption kennel is rarely, if ever, at capacity anymore. The same does not hold true for cats. Cats still enter the shelter in droves, especially in the summer.

Why do we need your help?

Despite the best efforts of the PHS/PCAPS partnership with the spay/neuter program and public awareness campaigns, cat overpopulation continues to be an issue. There simply aren't enough homes, shelters, foster families, or concerned citizens to care for them all. The Peoria Humane Society and Peoria County Animal Protection Services want to see this change. We need your help. Explore this webpage and join the movement to end cat overpopulation in the Peoria area.

What can you do?

The first step is to get educated. Once you know the facts, you can decide where you can have the most impact. Even the smallest contribution will make a difference. Talk to your friend about spaying and neutering, share information on your facebook page about low cost spay/neuter programs, or become a foster family to a litter of homeless kittens! Follow the links below to learn more and find out what you can do to help.
