Community Support Programs

Peoria Humane Society works to keep pets healthy, cared for, and with the families who love them by supporting programs that remove barriers to responsible pet ownership. From affordable spay and neuter services and emergency pet care to pet food assistance, these programs help families through difficult times while improving animal welfare throughout our community.

Why Community Support Matters

Many pet owners want to do the right thing for their animals but face challenges that can make veterinary care or everyday necessities difficult to afford. Community support programs help bridge that gap while creating benefits for pets, families, and local shelters.

Keeps Pets with Their Families

Providing resources and assistance helps prevent pets from being surrendered when families face financial hardship.

Reduces Shelter Overcrowding

Programs that support responsible pet ownership help reduce the number of animals entering local shelters.

Improves Animal Health

Access to preventive care and proper nutrition helps pets live healthier, happier lives.

Strengthens Our Community

When families have access to support, both people and animals benefit.

Helping Prevent Pet Overpopulation

Peoria Humane Social provides low cost spay/neuter services for dogs and cats, making this important preventive care more accessible for eligible pet owners.

Every spay or neuter surgery helps prevent unwanted litters, reduces the number of animals entering local shelters, and contributes to a healthier future for pets throughout our community. Through donor support, PHS is able to invest in long-term solutions that improve animal welfare and create lasting community impact.

Pet Food Assistance

Financial hardship should never force a family to choose between caring for themselves and caring for their pets. Through a partnership with Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS), Peoria Humane Society helps provide pet food assistance to pet owners who are struggling financially. We donate dog and cat food to local food pantries to help pet owners in need.

Pet owners can visit PCAPS during normal business hours to receive pet food at no cost while supplies are available. In addition, Peoria Humane Society helps supply pet food to local food pantries throughout the area, making assistance more accessible to families in need.
By helping families care for their pets during difficult times, this program reduces pet surrenders and keeps more animals safely at home where they belong.
