Peoria Humane Society began with a simple belief that animals deserve care, protection, and respect. Founded by a group of dedicated local advocates, the organization worked to improve animal welfare throughout the Peoria area and support animals facing neglect, abuse, and homelessness.
In partnership with local leaders and community supporters, Peoria Humane Society helped establish the foundation for the animal welfare services that exist in our community today, including support for the shelter that now serves Peoria County.
As local animal services evolved, so did our role. Today, we focus our efforts on expanding access to resources, supporting shelter animals, funding spay and neuter programs, promoting responsible pet ownership, and creating opportunities for people and animals to thrive together.
We are committed to supporting pet owners through programs that help keep animals healthy and in loving homes. We also bring comfort, connection, and encouragement to people of all ages through therapy dog visits that demonstrate the powerful impact animals can have on our lives.
While our programs have changed over the years, our purpose remains the same. We are committed to creating a more compassionate community for every animal and every person who cares for them.
