The Peoria Humane Society helped raise awareness about child abuse by joining "Hands Around the Courthouse" on Friday, April 17, at noon in the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza. In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month the Youth Services Network Panel hosted its Eighth Annual Hands Around the Courthouse event to draw attention to the 1098 pending child abuse and neglect cases in Peoria County.
During the event, advocacy officials spoke of the cases still pending and the importance of child abuse prevention. "Hands Around the Courthouse" participants wore blue to show their support of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The PHS has long known of the strong connection between animal abuse and humane violence and are happy to partner with local social service groups to raise awareness about the importance of preventing abuse on every level.
