This summer's state wide reading program theme was "Paws to Read". Several local libraries hosted a variety of fundraisers to help the homless animals at the Peoria County Animal Protection Services.

Fondulac Library decided to reach out to the community and during the months of June and July held a supply drive for the three shelters in the area: PAWS, TAPS and Tazewell Animal Control.

The Children’s Department also did a Penny vote to raise money for the shelters, and printed pictures off the PCAPS and TAPS webpages and then let the kids vote on who they thought had the best name,  was the cutest, funniest and most adoptable.  There was some heavy competition going on between the cat and dog lovers!    In the end, two dogs and two cats won.  Hopefully, some lucky animals found homes with the pictures being displayed all summer.

The staff is very community oriented and we have regular jeans days to raise money for organizations in the community.  One of our jeans days in July was for the three shelters.

Between the penny vote and jeans day we raised $120.00 with each shelter receiving $40.00.

Thanks to Children's Librarian and Paws to Read volunteer, Sue Elder for coordinating this fundraiser!
